When is hurricane season?
The Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 to November 30, with peak activity between mid-August and late October. If you're traveling during this window, monitor advisories daily and consider travel insurance that covers weather disruptions.
Travelling during hurricane season doesn't mean your trip will be affected — most Caribbean holidays go ahead without any disruption. But it does mean you should stay informed. Check this page regularly if you are travelling between June and November, and always make sure your travel insurance covers weather-related cancellations and disruptions. Islands most commonly affected during peak season include Jamaica, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, Cuba and the Lesser Antilles.
If a storm is approaching your destination, act on official advice immediately. The National Hurricane Center issues advisories every six hours during active storms. Local governments in each island will issue evacuation orders and shelter guidance — follow these without delay. Do not rely solely on social media for storm updates during an active hurricane.
